Avenues 1st Anniversary
Posted Wednesday, September 1, at 10:26 PM
September is our anniversary month at AVENUES and we have alot of special things planned. The magazine is 92 pages this month and our readers have a chance to enter 5 different contests with gifts that total over $1,000. Don't miss this.
If you are an advertiser of Avenues or an invited guest, here's a reminder to RSVP by Sept. 6. This is going to be quite a shindig and you don't want to miss it. So call us as soon as you can, so we can get an accurate count.
Stupid Peach There are people who know their limits and respect them -- then there are people like me who need a lesson on what their limits are and how to stay within their safety zone. I guess in reality, I think I can do anything and actually try if it's something that needs to be done. ...
Some of the best memories start as a disaster Two things before I start this story: Number one -- If I hadn't been there, I wouldn't believe this story was true; and Number two -- our son was right and we should never have changed his well-prepared plans. Family vacations are fun and extremely rare these days for our family. ...
You're gonna love what's coming to town In the next couple of weeks, the best publication I have seen (maybe ever) will be ready to hit the streets for you to pick up. Keep watching your favorite stores for "Avenues." It's a magazine this area has needed for a long time. Get ready ... you're gonna love what's coming to town!...
You can please most of the people none of the time You can never, ever, write a story that will not offend someone. It doesn't matter what the story is about -- someone will take issue with something you wrote, or at least the way you wrote it. This happened recently with the story I wrote about Dr. Kauffman getting his license suspended again. Some people didn't even get past the headline and thought it was terrible that AGAIN was in bold and caps, because, I guess, it got too many people's attention...
No more kittens My kittens have all found a new home and I can now reclaim my deck and try to salvage my flowers. Kittens are cute and fun to watch, but I certainly did not need 5 cats at my house. But they all have new homes except the mamma cat, of course. And as soon as I can get the appointment made, mamma cat is making a visit to the vet. Our last mama cat took care of the mice for us for over 17 years. Maybe we'll be that lucky again and this one will live to that ripe old age, also...
Just one black and white kitten left I started with four, but now I'm down to just one precious little kitten that needs a good home. It's black and white, playful and uses a litter box. It's going to be a mouser because the mama has been bringing tiny little mice to the deck for the kittens to learn about. ...
Need a kitten? If anyone is interested, I have three adorable kittens that need a good home. No charge -- just give them a good home. One is black, one is kinda tiger striped and one is black and white. And believe it or not, at 7 weeks old, they have been trained to a litter box! Call me (Erma) at the newspaper and I'll arrange for you to take one or two or three home with you...
Swine Catasrophe? I feel at times, that America is sitting around just waiting for another catastrophe to hit us. For a lot of us, 9/11 was the worst thing we've ever lived through -- and thanks to television, we all felt we were living it. Then came Katrina. Americans also lived through that (through our televisions once again) and felt the same disbelief watching the hurricane hit and the levys collapse as we felt when we watched the planes hit the Twin Towers...
The cardboard condo It's amazing how much my 12, 8 and 5 year-old grandchildren know about computers. They're always showing me how to do things and great little places to go on the Internet. Most of these places they've learned about at school and are teaching sites with a lot of fun added in...
Angie, I think she's been good for FCH Changes occur and sometimes change is good. Sometimes it is not. A change in the administration of the Fulton County Hospital will soon take place and only time will tell if this will be a good change. In my opinion, Angela Richmond has been good for our hospital. A lot of changes have taken place and most have been positive changes that benefit the hospital's patients, doctors, nurses and other staff members...
Plastic bags are taking over the world I got 52 items at the grocery store the other day. I also got 49 plastic bags. What is the deal here? Do the check-out people get a commission based on the amount of plastic bags they use in a shift, or do they have a contest going on to see who can use the most?...
Turn your lights on, Stupid! I have a few pet peeves I guess. Don't we all? This one, really gets to me because it's so dangerous. I just can't figure out why people do it (or forget to do it, I should say!). We had some dandy mornings last week that were so FOGGY you could barely find your car, much less the road. ...
Too many projects My yard still looks the same. Today would have been a great day to play outside (Saturday) with its 70 degree weather, but the wind was really strong so I chose to work on one of my already started inside projects (I have many). We put tile down in the remodeled kitchen and I love it. ...
Where did all the snow go? I did absolutely no outside cleanup this weekend. Couldn't. There was that one minor (major) problem of sore muscles that left me unable to raise my raking arm only a few inches from my side, but a few hours of raking probably would have worked the kinks out...
This ice storm clean up may be the death of me The ice storm left millions and millions of sticks and branches in the yard. This is what's left after the trees were cut up and the large branches and halves of trees were removed. Today, Wednesday, was such a beautiful day I had to get out and start cleaning up. I usually do a lot of yard work in early spring but this work borders on insane...
Ice Storm I am so glad the power is back on and our lives are slowly returning to normal. There's still a lot of cleanup to do which will take most of us until Spring to finish it, but we'll get it done someday. I guess the power companies are the first ones I want to say thanks to. They did a great job restoring the power. I was out of power for 6 days but many were without a lot longer. Because I live in the country I also had no water, so the power coming back on was a very welcomed relief...
It's Hot Welcome to August and the heat and humidity that takes your breath away! The extremes of summer and winter don't agree with me anymore -- I'll take spring and fall all year long. When I was a child, we didn't have air conditioning for a long time and I don't remember the heat and humidity being this bad -- although I'm sure it was, we just weren't acclimatized to cooled air back then...
Everyone should attend FCH Open House It's finally ready -- the open house for the new addition at the Fulton County Hospital will be held July 20 from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. and area residents will get a first-hand look at the impressive changes that have taken place. Even before you pull into the parking area at the hospital you notice the changes. ...
What we see in a picture Can I look at a picture and see one thing while someone else looks at the same photo and sees something quite different? I guess that's the case. Most people who know me would say I'm a sensitive person. I don't set out to hurt others although I'm sure I have many times in my life. Haven't we all?...
