Too many projects

No trim yet, but the room is coming along.

My yard still looks the same. Today would have been a great day to play outside (Saturday) with its 70 degree weather, but the wind was really strong so I chose to work on one of my already started inside projects (I have many).

We put tile down in the remodeled kitchen and I love it. Recommend it to everybody. SO easy to clean and doesn't show dirt too bad. But the room we opened up next to the kitchen for a dining, sitting area, I wanted the original hardwood flooring. And, of course, I would refinish the floor myself. Didn't learn anything the first time I did it in the bedroom I guess (stupid woman).

Anyway, once that nasty carpet that had covered those floors for 20+ years came up it was GREAT. The only problem was, the old living room and hallway floors weren't in as good of shape as the bedroom. But, that didn't stop me.

I stripped the floors down to the bare wood and sanded lightly. I didn't want to take every flaw out of the wood and in some cases it wouldn't have been possible anyway. So I chose a darker stain, one that was suppose to match my new oak cabinets.

So, that's what I did today. On hands and knees I stained the floor and part of the hallway. I had to leave us a path to get to the bedrooms and bathrooms for now. The floors are MUCH darker than my cabinets but the color is growing on me. The floor still has a lot of character (stains and scratches) but each character is a part of my life and raising my three sons here.

Now comes another fun part -- the polyurethane. Once the stain is completely dry I'll sand it lightly and apply the first coat, let it dry, sand again, apply the sealer, sand again and apply the final coat of polyurethane -- three coats in all.

When it's done my grandkids are going to have a great time sliding down the hallway. The dogs will probably go sliding too a few times. But, I hope my husband and I can stay on our feet. Can't afford to miss any work in this economy.

So, right now, my shoulder and arm isn't too stiff, but my knees are certainly feeling the pain of the day.

When will I learn!?
