Tommy Castro and The Painkillers
The Devil You Know
Sometimes, there really can be too many cooks in the kitchen.
That's not a problem, however, if your head chef is Tommy Castro.
Castro's newest release with his crack band The Painkillers does feature some high-profile guest stars, including: Joe Bonamassa, Samantha Fish, Marcia Ball and The Holmes Brothers, but rather than dominate the mix, they simply add their own spices to the finished product.
And that finished product is another hot serving of the Bay Area bluesman's patented rhythm and blues, a specialty he's been dishing out under his own name since the early 90s.
Despite moving away from the more horn-influenced style that he favored during the early portion of his career, Castro has still managed to infuse his blues with the same soulful touch that has helped him stand out from the rest of the pack. And on The Devil You Know, Castro has really landed upon the ultimate sweet spot between blue-eyed soul and the gut-bucket blues. And as always, Castro's song-writing and word-play is top-notch.
