  • Love this one, Bret. A former failure at team sports, I took up pool when dad opened a hall outside Chicago. It turned into quite a career.

Now five years retired from the playing side, I stick to writing about pool, where the only injuries sustained are paper cuts...

  • Hear Hear for the Billiard Hall as a place where one gets true wisdom - growing up in New York, you had three "B" choices when it came to sports - Bocce Ball in the Park, Bowling or Billiards - there might be some hockey in there too, but not that us ladies were allowed to play. So I picked billiards, and I learned more from those old fellas in the pool hall than I ever learned at school. Real lessons, life lessons, from folks who had lived and were willing to pass on their advice to a kid who was more than a bit wet behind the ears.
