  • Bret, You have read my mind. We have turned technology from a blessing to a curse by responding to it with downsizing instead of timesizing, jobcuts instead of hourscuts for all to keep everyone employed and spending, and then deeper hourscuts to spread the vanishing, not-yet-robotized private-sector employment, get our record numbers of unemployed, welfare, 'disabled,' homeless & incarcerated back to work, and save taxpayers the fortune that we're now paying cuz we haven't adjusted the workweek since 1940 despite wave after wave of worksaving technology! Imagine - we're trying to get economic growth alias UPsizing...by DOWNsizing! And let's quit talkin' the talk of "freedom" while walkin' the walk of making everyone's job so insecure with floods of desperate jobseekers underbidding one another that nobody wants to be the first to leave the office at night! Are we so scared of the most basic freedom, financially secure Free Time? - without which the other freedoms are meaningless or inaccessible! This approach opens up a long-range sustainable future for mankind. You can design a long-term plan like timesizingdotcom with this approach as the Single All-Sufficient Ground Rule that would enable us to safely dismantle most of the tax-gobbling programs and bureaucracies of all modern governments, that seem to exist solely because by not adjusting the workweek downward as our levels of worksaving technology push upward, we have made it harder to earn an honest living than the alternative. You're right - this is insane!
