Lots Happening in Spring
This week I'm going to try to cover both of my favorite spring activities. If you're not a race fan, just hang on I'll have a real personal fishing report. A big announcement from the West Plains Motor Speedway last week. The Gibsons have signed a deal with Luca Oil Dirt Late Model Series to sanction the Show-Me 100 on Memorial Weekend 2009. It's the first time in 17 years this has been done. Lucas brings alot to the table including TV coverage next winter on Speed and Verses. It also brings additional staff and tech support. National advertising between now and May will increase the exposure to Lucas fans and racers. All the major drivers will be there plus some new cars and drivers that have never been west of the Mississippi River. The O'Reilly sponsorship will be joined with Lucas Oil and Dart Manufacturing. The first race of the season is the Justin Stanfill Memorial Modified Special on March 19, 20, 21 and the next week the car show at Wal-Mart in West Plains. And the first Saturday in April the first points race and the Fastrac Late Model season debute. I'll be there so look me up. Spring fishing is off and running on Norfork Lake and I had to go. The wind was blowing and the water was stained. Many boats were on Big Creek and some were even overloaded with eager sportsman. The water temperature was about 50 to 55 degrees. I was shocked at that but started after the white bass. I ended up spending most of my time dealing with the wind situation and engine trouble. But I did not get skunked and am curious if my temperature gauge was accurate. I'll probably be back next week, with a different motor and a new trolling motor prop. Maybe my grandsons can go too. The rain expected this week may warm the water more so crappie could be an issue. So get out there and we'll see at the Lake too. |
