Hot weather and Hot Racing!

We did it and it was great! Royals Youth Baseball Camp

Everything was HOT this last week and that included me! I took 3 days off from radio and worked on a Garage Sale and spent time with my Grandsons too. We only got to go fishing once and it was HOT, but I did get to teach them how to use a bait caster and a spinning reel according to their age. They actually did very well, but it was a good thing we were on the lake.

Saturday at the Royals youth baseball clinic we had a great time and the Cardinal fans discovered that the Royals had some real cool players that knew a lot about teaching young people. About 130 young people and about half as many adults made the HOT occasion and radio stations KHOM and The Point had lots of bottled water for everyone.

The thing I noticed that stood out was the help that local coaches were getting too. Everyone from Arkansas and Missouri benefited and look forward to next year.

Well the Racing was HOT and if you weren't there you missed it! The track was slick and superior driving skills were required and Horsepower was not the issue. The first race that really stood out was the Hobby class feature. Previous week winner Chris Piper was trying for 2 in a row and John Stiner wanted to rain on his parade, and he was a man that could do it. Piper lead almost every one of the 20 laps, but Stiner's 93 was glued to the #2 of Piper. On lap 18 John got Piper loose in turn four and Stiner made a pass for the lead, then got the white flag. Chris went high in one and two but couldn't get the lead back. Going into turn three both went in low knowing that the other would be there. Stiner went just a little off the very bottom and Chris stuck his nose in the open spot. Then it got very exciting as Stiner tried to shut the door. Both had the hammer down and their front tires got tangled and the REAL EXCITEMENT began. Coming down the front straightaway Piper ended in front of Stiner and the 93 pushed the 2 car across the finish line for the victory. The crowd went CRAZY and Chris Piper got two in a row. There was something special about that night in that it was the night that his father was honored.

The other classes had similar racing action and like I said, if you weren't there you missed it.

This July Fourth Weekend is the Firecracker Weekend and the center of attention is the Super Stocks and all classes will be running on two nights. Thursday is practice night for all classes and the general admission is FREE and only $10.00 to get in the Pits.

Friday night is qualifying heats and time trials, Hobby, Youth Hobby, and Cruisers will run for points. Admission for Friday will be like a regular week. Ten dollars for Adults, 7 to 11 three dollars, and six and under are always free. July fourth will be the final qualifying for the 40 lap Super Stock feature and a special Fastrac Late Model purse and as always a big IMCA Modified night. The Air Magic Fireworks is a real treat and a major event in the area. The theme of the event is to honor the Veterans and it is the best fireworks display I've ever seen. Admission Saturday night is $15.00 for adults, Five dollars kids 7 to 11 and six and under are always free.

No matter what you do, be safe, and I'll see you at the races.........................
