A week without racing?

Posted Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at 6:04 PM

I couldn't help myself!!! Even though I didn't make it to a speedway, I did go to a go-cart track with my grandsons and the newest dad in my family. My youngest son Joel became a dad for the first time and he and Leslie had a beautiful baby girl. Nixa is a better place for it and grandpa is sure proud. Now I'm sure that Grandma Erma is glowing so much that the newspapers are radio active.

Back to racing. It's always fun to race with the boys 12, 9, and 29. It's all grandpa can do to get in and out of the carts. So I'm really looking forward to this weekend and the Sprint cars coming to the West Plains Motor Speedway.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors are sponsored by O'Reillys and are quite substantial and I examined their car counts the last 6 weeks and they had as many as 53. What can we expect? Probably over 20. The group comes from central Missouri and they are 360 cui and will turn laps in the low, low teens. They have been with us before and put on a very good show. Many just got back from the Knoxville 360 Nationals in Iowa. We are expecting a teenage girl pilot in one of them and other teen drivers. The Local sponsor is the Dillard Motor Company of Ash Flat and if you know Terry Dillard, you know he loves Sprint Cars.

All Classes will be running , including fastrac late models, so if you only go once this year, make this the one.

Congratulations to Jimmy Owens the Newport, TN nightmare for his win at the Topless100 in Batesville. Owens finished in the top 5 at the Show-Me 100 and has several Crown Jewels to his credit, except the Show-Me 100.

I did go fishing last Thursday with my good friend Alex Rutledge, of the Outdoor Channel Fame and Hunter Specialties TV. We caught a bunch of Smallmouth on the Current River near Vanburen, MO and had a blast. I did learn a lot about that stream and can assure you that if you go with Alex, you can catch a boat load. (Remember I'm a fisherman, so you may only actually catch half a boat load.) If you want to book a trip with Alex Rutledge contact me at tomharris1@centurytel.net and I'll tell you how to get it done. It's been rainiy and that will just make the racing better.........

Hope to see you there!!!!!!!
