State of the Cabin UpdatePosted Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 11:43 AM
We are now enjoying two additional advantages to having electric and water - a washing machine and a dishwasher.
Granted, as our cabin is somewhat limited on space, we've created a covered area just behind the cabin where we've placed our washing machine and dishwasher on palettes for the moment. We also use this covered area for our outdoor grill and a work table. The eventual plan is to expand the cabin for a washroom, bathroom and extra bedroom - but that's going to be down the road a bit.
I cannot tell you how amazingly wonderful it is to have a dishwasher and a washing machine on site - we used to have to heat water mixed with bleach and scrub like mad to get our dishes clean and laundry day meant 4 hours spent at the local laundromat and $30 bucks out of our pockets.
Now, we do the laundry and the dishes as we need to, nothing piles up, and to be perfectly honest - the clothes smell way better having dried out on the line (our "solar" dryer as the Marine calls it) than they ever did coming out of the dryers at the laundromat.
Next up - once we finish constructing our greenhouses and the Marine completes construction of his workshop, we'll get to work on cabinets for the kitchen and (finally!) getting our oven in place. Granted, the Marine has made cooking on the grill an art form, but there's just something about heating hot water up for tea on the stove that makes me happy.
