Casting Thy Bread Upon Thy Waters

Posted Sunday, August 28, 2011, at 10:57 PM

Cast your bread upon the waters, and it will come back, but sometimes without the proverbial crusts. There have been days when I have cast my bread upon the waters, and it has yet to come back to me. I sometimes go to a manmade lake, and when I cast my bread upon its waters, the ducks swim by and gobble it down. But I don't mind because that's why I am there.

The other day, I cast my bread upon the waters where there were no ducks because I was at home, and it was an internet site for aspiring female writers, but this time it came back with unexpected results.

I posted my real-life picture and a profile answering one out of many questions. The question was, "what are you?" so I answered, "I think I am a human."

The following day, an email from someone named Julia writing as John Derek, or John Derek being Julia, arrived.

"Comment Site . So I decided to stop by an let you know that I really want to have a good friendship with you. Beside i have something special i want to discuses with you, but I find it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site. Getting suspicious, I told her/him that it was unusual she didn't want to write about it since it is a site for writers. Do you think I acted in haste, or was this just another Ponzi scheme?

Oh I don't know whether you made the right decision - though I can't say I'm familiar with many Bobovaye's named "Juliana" (unless maybe Madonna adopted her).

Bobovaye is a Nigerian name. But if Madonna is involved, you might consider dropping her an e.

Still, I'd recommend having your anti-malware program running on high-boost should she include a link in her reply. There's some nasty germs about in Africa. Look what happened to poor ol' Moammar after he got infected in 1971.
