2009 proved to be one of the most challenging years for North Arkansas Electric Cooperative as we dealt with the worst winter storm ever to hit North Arkansas. This following 2008's record setting year with tornadoes, floods and Hurricane Ike. Hopes were that 2010 would see a much more moderate year in terms of weather. 2010 has come in on a rather wet note with two significant snowfalls nearly back to back in the area. With as much as 19 inches total snow in some areas, the ground saturation has led to some horrible road conditions after the thaw that has finally nearly cleared the ground of the white stuff, replacing it with soggy brown mud. A Calico Rock man was arrested Saturday with charges pending relating to the theft of guns from multiple residences. Lewie Elmer Branscum, age 24, is accused of stealing guns and pawning them at area pawn shops. At the time of his arrest, Branscum tested positive for amphetamines and meth. Branscum is also on a hold from the Department of Correction and remains in the Izard County Detention Facility.
