Thanks to the keen eye of an Oregon County sheriff's deputy, a Texas man accused of robbing two Springfield banks was apprehended at Harp's grocery store in Thayer on May 27, barely 12 hours after the crimes were committed. Salem man arrested on child porn charge (06/03/10)
Robert Porter, 68, of Salem has been charged with 10 counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, all Class C Felonies. Porter was in California when the charges were filed, and corresponded with local law enforcement to schedule a surrender to authorities. Porter was arrested by Salem Police Chief Albert Roork on May 26 and immediately posted the $50,000 bond...

An accidental shooting in Williford May 27 took the life of a 37-year-old Hardy woman.
