Some cuts reduced as Fulton County Quorum Court approves 2012 budget (12/29/11)
After struggling in October and November to cut $100,000 from its 2012 budget, two bits of good news helped Fulton County Quorum Court finally pass a budget at it's Dec. 19 meeting. State Representative Lori Benedict received loud applause when she said, if the county was going to build a $2.1 million jail for criminals, "My gosh, we owe it to our senior citizens to find them the money (to operate centers)."...
Christmas Day house fire destroys home (12/29/11)
The Cherokee Village Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Dec. 25 at 13 Powhattan Drive. Cherokee Village Fire Department Lieutenant Russel Tanner said the home was completely engulfed upon arrival. Captain Johnny Pendarvis was first to arrive and reported that flames were through the roof and the scene was very hot. Firefighter Jason Debosier was operating the second engine on scene and he reported that he could feel extreme heat 500 feet away, at the hydrant...
