Greyhounds' program has traveled from REA to perfection (11/14/12)
Who needs a Junction when you have the REA? The late Bear Bryant, as a young coach at Texas A&M, put tiny Junction, Texas, on the map in 1954 when he took his first Aggie team there for a 10-day camp in the drought and 100-plus degree conditions. Estimates of close to 100 players made the trip. Only 37 survived, many skipping out in the middle of the night. A&M won just one game that year, but went 7-2-1 the next season before winning the Southwest Conference in '56 with a 9-0-1 record...
Ordinance passed to obtain loan to build jail. (11/14/12)
Nearly a year after Fulton County voters approved a plan to finance a new jail, Quorum Court has finally passed an ordinance authorizing the county to close on a USDA Rural Development loan to pay for most of the project. "This is a special Quorum Court meeting tonight to pass Ordinance 2012-11," County Judge Charles Willett said as the Nov. 5 meeting began. "It's an ordinance authorizing issuance by the county of USDA R-D (Rural Development) sales and use tax capital improvement bonds."...

A 17-year old Viola High School student on her way to school was killed on Tuesday, Nov. 6. According to an Arkansas State Police report, Angel Jones lost control of her vehicle on a curve on Highway 62-412 as she traveled west from Salem. Her vehicle struck a guardrail and veered into the eastbound traffic lane, where she struck an oncoming vehicle head on. The report indicates road conditions were wet at the time of the accident...
