Highland falls in semi-finals (12/09/12)
Highland finally met its match. Ozark used a similar passing style, running game and defense as the Rebels, and the Hillbillies held off Highland, 28-25, in the semifinals of the Class 4A state playoffs. Ozark had about 60 more yards of offense. Each team had an interception, but Highland also had a fumble. Highland and Ozark both scored four touchdowns, but where the Hillbillies' Tripp White was perfect on point-after attempts, Highland missed two PATs and failed on a two-point conversion...
Lyon Tournament underway in Batesville (12/09/12)
Seven area schools are participating in the annual Lyon College Tournament in Batesville. These schools, spread throughout three Arkansas counties are Highland, Cave City, Melbourne, Calico Rock, Salem, Viola and Mammoth Spring. On Dec. 1, the Cavemen senior boys knocked off Heber Springs 62-37, to advance to play Concord, who received a first round bye. Also on the boys side, Harding Academy proved too much for the Mammoth Spring Bears, who fell 52-50...
Salem accepts defeat; looks for ways to improve upon historic season (12/09/12)
The Salem Greyhounds' football season may be over, but the team will be remembered in the school's record book for years to come. The 11-1 Greyhounds only loss came to the Junction City Dragons, a team with comparable size, speed and strength.
