Why do buzzards not take planes? Because planes don't allow carrion. Thanks. I'll be here all week. As will the buzzards. Greeting me each morning as I head to work and each evening as I return home are hundreds of buzzards. Of all the vast woods in this area, these roadkill-eating, songless and downright ugly birds chose the trees across the street from my house in Cherokee Village and right above my mailbox to roost each and every day...

Braxton and Bella Smith, the popular shop dogs at the Hi-Lo Shoppe in Highland, celebrated their second birthdays with a crowd of well wishers on Jan. 24. The Yorkies have become popular with shoppers as the dogs have grown and become part of the Hi-Lo Family. Their daddy and mommy are Buddy and Sonja Smith. The puppies' special aunt, Sheree Hamm, provided the treats, as the two were dressed in their finest attire to greet visitors and share a snack or two...

Amendment II to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. If President Obama and Congress in Washington cannot keep people from coming into the United States illegally, why would they think a ban on assault rifles would keep them out of the hands of criminals and any other nut who wants one?...
