Alta Cooper, 80, of Jonesboro, Ark., died Sept. 9, 2005, at her residence. Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Weiner, Ark., she was a member of the Valley View Church of Christ. She was baptized into the Nettleton Church of Christ. She retired from General Motors with 27 years of service when she lived in Michigan prior to moving to Jonesboro. She also was formerly from the Horseshoe Bend and Ash Flat areas.
Survivors include her husband, Neil Shirley of the home; one sister, Willa Jean Dawson of Portageville, Mo.; two nieces, Jackie Louise Stockton and Judith Marie Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her previous husband, Basil Cooper; her parents, C.W. "Tobe" and Velma Batson Bryant; one brother, Cecil W. Bryant Jr.
The funeral was held at Oaklawn Cemetery Sept. 12 with Jerry Shelton and Charles Cooper officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
