Arthur Lee Wells, 81, of Williford died Jan. 13, 2004, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born Dec. 1, 1922, in Ravenden, he was the son of Samuel Henry and Stella Mae Halstead Wells.
He married the former Rexie Sparlin of Pocahontas, Ark., Feb. 2, 1959, in Ravenden.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, a self-employed carpenter and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Rexie Sparlin Wells, of the home; four sons -- Jimmy Wells of Indiana, Sammy Wells and Tommy Wells, both of Houston, and a stepson, Andy Sparlin of Peach Orchard; seven daughters -- Rebecca Heath of Smithville, Elizabeth Wells of Williford, Teressa Brooks of Florida, Linda Wells Dart of Canon City, Colo., Joye Mangis of Jonesboro, Berry Gail Cramer of Oklahoma, and Sandy Claybourne of Georgia; a sister, Monnie Scott Pickett, of Williford; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Wells, and his parents.
The funeral was Jan. 16 at Higginbotham Chapel in Hardy. Burial followed in Dail Cemetery with John Stoll officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service Inc. of Hardy.
Pallbearers were David Wells, Ronnie Wells, Butch Dail, Raymond Wilkerson, Bobby Scott and William Junkersfield.
Honorary pallearers were Danny Scott and Gary Scott.
