Archie Curman Soward, 83, of Ash Flat died March 19, 2003, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Born Sept. 19, 1919, in Ash Flat, he was the son of Marcus Odel Soward and Sara Ann Casey Soward.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He served during World War II. He fought in the following battles and campaigns: Normandy, North France, Ardennes, and the Rhineland. While in service, Soward was awarded four Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was married to Norma L. Groce on March 30, 1940, in Ash Flat.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kay Bailey of Ash Flat; two grandchildren, Rodney Williams and Melissa Moore; three great-grandchildren, Shasta Williams, Sierra Goodman and Trisha Goodman, and a great-great-grandson, Chase Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service was March 20 at Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of of Highland.
