Betty Darlene Martin, of Salem, daughter of the late Carl Jackson and Amanda Lorraine (McElmurry) Wallace, was born Dec. 21 1943, in Shafter, Calif. She died March 3, 2007, at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., at the age of 63.
She was united in marriage to Paul Gene Martin on July 22, 1960, at Salem, and to this union three children were born. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty worked as a secretary for the Fulton County Sheriff and Collector's Office and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by: her husband, Paul Gene Martin of Salem; two sons, Tony Martin of Salem, and Jason Martin (Carrie) of Salem; a daughter, Lisa Yarnell (Burton) of Salem; two sisters, Doris Jean Hise of Ft. Smith Ark., and Linda Gail Clements of Ft. Smith, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Lacey Shepherd, Ryan Yarnell, Stacey Yarnell, Mackenzie Martin, Wendi Martin, Morgan Martin, Alex Martin and Sydney Martin; a great-grandson, John Carter Shepherd; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Martin.
The funeral services were held March 5 at the Salem First Baptist Church in Salem with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment was in the Humphries Cemetery at Glencoe with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Ryan Yarnell, Seth Martin, Rayford Martin, Larry Humphries, James Gale Godwin and Michael Dean Godwin.
