Billy Wayne Hammond, 58, of Salem died April 28, 2003, at St. Louis.
Born May 14, 1944, at Sturkie, he was the son of Emma Mae Carmack Davis and Lester D. Hammond.
He married Shirley Marie Spencer Jan. 1, 1995, at Sturkie. He spent his working years as a husband, father, grandfather, and a wood cutter. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and in the United States Army National Guard during Desert Storm. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Billy Wayne Hammond Jr. of Bexar, Darrell Holloway of Salem, and Chris Stepp of Bexar; two daughters -- Melissa Jean Cunningham of Glencoe and Lora Loren Kingston of Ash Flat; his mother, Emma Mae Davis of West Plains, Mo.; two brothers -- James Elvin Hammond of West Plains, and Larry Eugene Hammond of Sturkie; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester; a son, Glenn Stepp; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Cunningham.
A graveside funeral service was May 2 at Stateline Cemetery at Moko with Jon Ewing officiating. Interment was in Stateline Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
