Beryl John "B.J." Orth, 72, of Horseshoe Bend died Nov. 18, 2004, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.
Born Aug. 23, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of John William Orth and Zelma Brecht Orth.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served 20 years before retiring from active duty as a sergeant first class.
He then served in different capacities for the United States government for another 20 years.
He and his wife, Traute, were married Dec. 30, 1966, in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and was a lifetime member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association. He also belonged to the Eagles Club in Horseshoe Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Traute Orth of the home in Horseshoe Bend; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Tanja Orth of Germany; two brothers -- Ronald Orth of Wisconsin, and Burge Pennington of Missouri; and a sister, Jackie Deutsch of Wisconsin.
A graveside military service was Nov. 24 at the Arkansas Veterans' Cemetery in North Little Rock. Arrangements were under the direction of the Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend.
The family requests memorials be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
