Bernice Keirn of Salem, daughter of the late Forest W. Phelps and Lydia Joann Murphy Phelps, was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Heart, Ark. She died June 27, 2006, at Skaggs Hospital in Branson, Mo., at the age of 82.
She was united in marriage to Homer Keirn on March 20, 1945. To this union four children were born. She was employed as a cook at many local restaurants. She was a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children, Joan Stephens and husband Ed of Branson, Mo., Wayne Keirn and wife Joyce of Cave City, Donald Keirn and wife Beverly of Independence, Mo.; Rocky Keirn and wife Valerie of Wideman; grandchildren -- Alicia and Greg Smith, Angie Buck, Ryan and Krystal Keirn, Katie Butler, LeAnn Forbis, Chelsea Keirn, Miranda Short, Michelle Johnston and Martin Hixon; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Willis Phelps of Glencoe; sisters, Oma Weaver of Salem, Nova Jean Smith, Bernadine Treat and Faye Presley, all of Wichita, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Melvin and Roy Phelps; and her father and mother.
Funeral services were held June 30 at the Salem Church of Christ with burial following in the Agnos Cemetery. Arrange-ment were under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
