Byrl Robert Smith, 74, of Hardy died Nov. 23, 2002, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System.
Born Oct. 5, 1928, in Armstrong, Iowa, he was the son of James Smith and Hattie Vandenburgh Smith. He attended school in Armstrong and Estherville, Iowa.
He married Wilma Doris Smith Nov. 20, 1948, in Jackson, Minn. He was a truck driver and worked for the Iowa Highway Transportation Department of Pocahontas, Iowa. He also was a transport operator for the Herman Brothers of Omaha, Neb., before retiring 1984. He was a long time member of the Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law -- Steven and Martha Smith of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and Randall and Trudy Smith of Lehigh, Iowa; a brother, Duane Smith of Ft. Collins, Iowa; three sisters -- Janet K. Heald of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marlas Snavely of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Marlene Thurman of Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ronald Smith; a grandson, Christopher Smith; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Smith.
The funeral was Nov. 26 at Heath Oak Hill Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Rhoades officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Hardy First United Methodist Church.
