Charles Evin Buckman, 88, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Cherokee Village died Feb. 28, 2002, at Westminster Care of Clermont, in Clermont, Fla.
Born Nov. 30, 1913, in Clinton, Iowa, he was the son of J.C. "Charlie" and Carrie E. "Lizzie" Judd Buckman. He married Mary Ellen Petersen Aug. 5, 1934, in Rock Island, Ill. She died in October 1996.
He was a 1934 graduate of Clinton High School. He also was a graduate of Davenport Barber College, Davenport, Iowa. He served the United States Navy in the Pacific from 1944-1947 on the USS Howard Gilmore. He was a grocery store and barber shop owner/operator in Clinton. He moved from Clinton to Northbrook, Ill., then retired to Cherokee Village. He then moved to Mountain Home, and finally to Hawthorne at Leesburg.
Survived include a daughter, Sandra Jean (Rev. John) Cornish of Leesburg; three grandchildren -- Randall (Crystal) Cornish of St. Charles, Ill; Vicky Rudd of Ozark, Mo; Will (Julie) Cornish of Georgetown, Texas; five great-grandchildren -- Lynn Rudd, Nikki Rudd, Justin Rudd, Mandy Cornish and Kelsey Cornish; a great-greatgrandson, Andrew Heidenreich; two brothers -- Levi Buckman of Clinton and Harold Buckman of Chicago; two sisters -- Agnes Marr Kerwin of Mountain Home and Vera DeSimone Ott of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers -- Royce and Earl Buckman; and two sisters -- Elizabeth Kirchner and Hazel Thompson.
The funeral was March 6 at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Homes and Crematory with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial followed in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28.
Memorial may be made to Endowed Educational Schol-arships at Mount St. Clare, Southeastern Community Col-lege, and Iowa Wesleyan College. Memorials may also be made to Hospice of Lake/Sumter County or Hawthorne at Leesburg.
