Carl William Bailey, 87, of Sidney died March 31, 2002, in Batesville.
Born June 28, 1914, in Dewitt, he was the son of John and Dell Bailey. He married Noba Ann Stroud July 17, 1938, in Maxville.
He spent most of his working years as a sawmill operator. He was a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law -- Sharon Jeffrey of Batesville, and Marion and David Herrington of Sidney; a son and daughter-in-law -- James and Jennylee Bailey of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Osie Duke of Sidney; a half-brother, Ernest Dean Bailey of Yuma, Ariz.; 25 grandchildren -- Rickey Bailey, Steve Dew, Pam Bailey, Jimmy Bailey, Randy Gilstrap, Debbie Gilstrap, Randy Guiltner, Teresa Guiltner, Missy Kimble, Terry Kimble, Mike Hendrix, Catrina Hendrix, Bobbie Jo Bookout, Lisa Wimbish, Mark Herrington, Jeanne Herrington, Toro Sullins, Carla Sullins, Brian Vest, Angie Vest, Vanessa Herrington, Aaron Jeffrey, Gina Jeffrey, Zachary Jeffrey and Samantha Jeffrey; 24 great-grandchildren -- Breann Bailey, Kiera Bailey, Cody Stuart, James Bailey, Christina Dew, Kaylee Gilstrap, Brandi Gilstrap, Bailey Gilstrap, Jodi Rush, Courtney Bookout, Tabatha Bailey, Conley Hendrix, Taylor Wimbish, Bobby Connor, T.J. Sullins, Jaeger Sullins, Crystal Bailey, Daniel Bailey, Brandon Sullins, Eric Sullins, Hunter Guiltner, Jackson Kimble, Lucian Humphrey, Jackson Humphrey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Janie Bailey; his wife; two sons -- Douglas Bailey and Paul Bailey; four brothers -- Ray Bailey, General Bailey, Elmer Bailey and Silas Bailey; five half-brothers -- Charles Bailey, John Henry Bailey, Vernie Lee Bailey, Deek (Earnie) Bailey and Dean Bailey; and two half-sisters, Cybl Bailey and Sylvia Bailey.
The funeral was April 3 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Matthew Adam and Alvin Wiles officiating. Burial followed in Barren Fork Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark Herrington, Rickey Bailey, Jimmy Bailey, Aaron Jeffrey, Randy Guiltner and Brian Vest.
Honorary pallbearers were Toro Sullins, Terry Kimble, Allen Bailey and James Bailey.
Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
