Cleaty McHatton Howell, 93, of Cave City died July 5, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born July 8, 1909, at Cherry Valley, she was the daughter of John Wesley and Maggie Louis Garland. She was a homemaker and a member of Sidney Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons -- Walter McHatton of Little Rock and Douglas McHatton of Auburn, Kan.; five daughters -- Vivian Kifer of Shawnee, Kan., Jean Colangelo of Olathe, Kan., Margaret Towers of Heber Springs, Kathy Davies of Ormand By The Sea, Fla., and Jackie McHatton of Henderson, Ky.; four stepsons -- Willard Howell of Springfield, Mo., Tom Howell of Oposha, Mo., Richard Howell of St. Charles, Mo., and Kenneth Howell of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three stepdaughters -- Evelyn Webster of Naylor, Mo., Georgia Stevens of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Brenda Howell of Omaha, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Homer McHatton; her second husband, Nathan Howell; a son, Wesley McHatton; a daughter, Monica Kifer; a brother, Bill Garland; a grandson, Dennis McHatton; and an infant granddaughter, Shelley Mattix.
The funeral was July 9 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel at Cave City with Wayne Goodman officiating. Burial followed in Evening Shade Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
