Daniel D. Wright, 58, of Hardy died Feb. 10, 2002, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas, as the result of a massive heart attack.
Born July 7, 1943, in Potsdam, N.Y., he was the son of Milan G. and Evangeline Prittie Wright. He graduated from Potsdam Central High School and served several years in the U.S. Air Force. He married Luann Vellia July 10, 1965, in W. Islip, N.Y., He returned to Hopkinton, N.Y., in 1966 where he operated the Wright's General Store for six years. He then moved to Branchport, N.Y., where he worked for E.C. Crooks Memorials and later operated Finger Lakes Memorials Co. Eleven years later he moved to DeBary, Fla., and opened Daniel's Classic Jewelry. In 1992 he moved to Hardy and opened Gold and Gems of Hardy.
He was a member of the Brasher Falls, N.Y., Masonic Lodge 541 and Spring River Shriners Temple in Hardy.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Major Daniel D. Wright III, U.S. Air Force, in Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Ms. Wren Wright of DeBary, Fla.; his mother, Mrs. Evangeline Rorke of Hopkinton; a sister, Mrs. Judith W. Greene of Sanfordville, N.Y.; a brother, Timothy S. Wright of Greenwich, Conn.; two grandchildren -- Danielle Wright and Jacob Wright, both of Washington D.C.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral was Feb. 17 at Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with the Rev. Charles Gardner, pastor of the Hopkinton Congregational Church, officiating.
A Masonic service was held at the funeral home Feb. 16 Cremation followed the service.
Disposition of the cremains will be arranged in the spring.
A memorial service will be from 1-5 p.m. April 6 at the Old Hardy Gym.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
