Elaine Cupit George, 81, died May 31, 2005, at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat. She was the ninth child of 10 children born to James Carl Cupit and Elizabeth Flowers Cupit of Franklin County, Miss.

The only survivor of her immediate family is one sister, Evelyn Cupit Tankersley of Cherokee Village. Other survivors include a large number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A teacher by profession, most of her career was spent teaching in the Eloy, Ariz. Public Schools, where many of her students were children of migrant workers and other minorities. She retired after 31 years as an elementary teacher. She considered her teaching as a calling and a mission.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. Also, she was a member of the Eastern Star and served as worthy matron in the Eloy, Ariz., Chapter. Above all, Elaine was a practicing Christian.

Heath Oak Hill Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial service was held June 5 at Oak Grove Methodist Church in Franklin County, Miss. with arrangements by Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.
