Edgar John "Dick" Young, 88, of Mammoth Spring died Nov. 5, 2004, in Mammoth Spring.
Born March 27, 1916, in Sharp County, he was the son of Luther Young and Alma Menzil Young. He married Doris Zirstein in 1936 in Sharp County. He married Dessie Qualls in 1965 in Mammoth Spring. She preceded him in death in 1988.
He was a farmer, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a believer in God and was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Naomi Begalski, and her husband, Richard, of Hardy; a son, Loyd Young of Mammoth Spring; five grandchildren -- Charlene Ellis of Ravenden, Melissa Holloway of Ash Flat, Lynn Smith of Searcy, Lana Steed of Thayer, Mo., and Denny Young of Mammoth Spring; nine great-grandchildren -- Patrick, Sarah, Jonathan, Mathew, Eric, Erin, Kelsey, Zach and Cole; a great-great-granddaughter, Lanney Mae; a stepdaughter, Barbara Burris of Memphis, Tenn.; three step-grandchildren -- Larry Owens, Patty Sullivan and Johnny Baker; and a special friend, Morine Billingsley of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers -- Vernon and Carl Young; a sister, Dorothy Longan; and a daughter-in-law, Lorene Young.
The funeral service was Nov. 7 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Thayer. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.
