Elno Estes, 81, of Salem died May 6, 2003, at Arkansas Heart Hospital.
Born April 3, 1942, at Agnos, he was the son of Arles Andrew and Mary Elvada Manry Estes.
He graduated from high school at Ash Flat. During World War II he served under Patton as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He married Freda Estes on Nov. 28, 1946, in Mammoth Spring. They had two sons. Elno and Freda were married for 56 years. He worked at North Arkansas Electric Cooperative for 27 years. He was an active member of Salem Church of Christ, and was a devoted father and grandfather. He was known as "Pappy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Freda, of the home in Salem; two children -- Stanley Estes and wife, Kathy, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Jerry Estes and wife, Barbara, of Salem; four grandchildren -- Cassidy Velek, Evan Estes, Beau Estes and Eli Estes; four great-grandchildren -- Isabell Estes, Andrew Velek, Carson Estes and Nathan Velek; two sisters -- Helen Ashton of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Guelda Gibson of Ash Flat; two brothers-in-law -- Jim Estes and Harrel Estes; a sister-in-law- Argie Lapio; and 20 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Russell Estes.
The funeral service was May 10 at Salem Church of Christ with David Gibson officiating.
Interment was in Salem Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
