Florence Maxine Elrod, 85, of Cherokee Village died Nov. 9, 2002, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born July 3, 1917, in Colfax, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles Romick and Verna Webb Romick. She married Lester L. Elrod March 28, 1936, in Prairie City, Iowa. She owned and operated a beauty salon for 22 years while living in Gilman, Iowa, before moving to Sharp County.
She and her husband moved to Cherokee Village in 1980 and opened Elrod's Furniture Store which they operated for many years. She was an active 4-H leader and secretary of the Gilman Saddle Club. While in Cherokee Village she was active in United Methodist Missions and Women's Circle group at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church where she was a member.
Survivors include her husband, Lester L. Elrod; four daughters and sons-in-law -- Shirley and John Van Wyhe of Pella, Iowa, Wilma and Leon Wilson of Grinnell, Iowa, Sue and Bob Vanderpool of Mammoth Spring, and Carla and Dave McCrea of Runnells, Iowa; two brothers -- Raymond Romick of Alleman, Iowa, and Tom Romick of Webster City, Iowa; and a sister, Zola Cole of Williamsburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter; four brothers; and a sister.
The funeral was Nov. 12 at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim West officiating. Burial was in the Griffith Cemetery in Prairie City, Iowa.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Hardy.
