F.V. "Tom" Thompson, Jr., was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Akron, Ohio. He was the son of Frankin VanCulen Thompson Sr. and Theodora Lawrence Turner. He died Sept. 4, 2007, in Cherokee Village, Ark., at the age of 76.
He retired from Edward Jones Investments after 12 years as a financial advisor. Prior to that, he had spent over 36 years in industrial management with various firms including Lord Corp., and Cooper Tire. He also was a retired captain in the United States Air Force.Tom served his church and community in various capacities including chairman of the Planning and Zoning committee and city councilman in Cherokee Village and as a member of the school board in El Dorado, Ark. He was a member of the finance committee and board of trustees at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. He also was an associate professor of economics at Gannon College in Erie, Pa., where he taught evening classes. Tom was a past president of Cherokee Village Kiwanis and a dedicated a member.He is survived by: his four children, F.V. "Lin" Thompson III and family of Ripley, Tenn., Linda M. Beer and family of Monticello, Ark., Stephen D. Thompson and wife Kim of Cherokee Village and William P. Thompson and family of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Rammel and husband Gerry of Greenville, S.C.; nephew, Ken Hill and family of Columbia S.C.; his wife, Ann Winder Thompson, and her children, Mark Winder and family of Mt. Vernon, Iowa and Jody Yutsler and family of Lowden, Iowa; and five other nieces and nephews.His parents, F.V. "Spud" and Theodora Thompson Sr. and his wife of over 50 years, Phllis H. Thompson preceded him in death.Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to Cherokee Village Kiwanis or Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.
