George Warren Helms, 74, of Pasadena, Calif., died April 23, 2003.
Born May 29, 1928, at Bono, he was the son of Warren Joseph Helms and Nobie Elsie Gossage Helms.
He attended Arkansas School for the Blind in Little Rock and graduated from Missouri School for the Blind in St. Louis. He received a bachelor's degree in 1951 from Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, and received his master's degree in the state of California.
He was an educator in the Arkansas Public School System, Arkansas School for the Blind, and Glendale, Calif., Public Schools. He was a volunteer for several services for the visually impaired.
Survivors include two brothers -- James Hoyt Martin of St. Louis, and Thomas Joseph Helms of Starksville, Miss.; two sisters -- Bonnie Corrine Baughman of Salem, and Linda Ruth Long of Ash Flat; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by mother in 1933, his father in 1983, his step-mother, Francis Viola Hubbard Martin Helms in 1983, and a sister, Wanda Gay in 2000.
A memorial service was held April 26 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Pasadena.
Interment arrangements were under the direction of Rose Hill Mortuary of Whittier, Calif.
