Garon L. Crafton, 84, of Cave City died May 15, 2006, at the Cave City Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1921, at Strawberry to Elvie and Effie Sneed Crafton.
He was a superintendent for a railroad construction company, a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific areas.
He helped organize the Cave City Nursing Home and was a board member since its inception, served as a Cave City alderman and was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Cave City.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Robinson Crafton of the home; two sons, Danny Garon Crafton of Andalusia, Ill., and Ralph David Crafton and DeKalb, Ill.; three stepsons, Donald Merritt, Steven Merritt and Robert Merritt, all of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Sheila Joy Crafton of East Moline, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Neil Crafton, Jeff Crafton, Jewell Crafton, Clayon Crafton and Coy Crafton; and two sisters, Ruth Coleman and Gladys Callahan.
Funeral services were held May 18 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Cave City with Bro. Jeff Holland and Bro. Hoover Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the Ward Cemetery at Strawberry with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Gary Farmer, Jerral Hastings, Chris Chance, Jim Smith, Jimmy Crafton and Bill Callahan.
