Helen Evans McCurley

Helen Irene Evans McCurley, 88, daughter of the late Jeff Evans and Elsie Maddox Evans, was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Rush Creek, Ark. She died June 28, 2005, in Calico Rock. She was united in marriage to James Ewell McCurley on May 18, 1934, in Melbourne, until his death in 1997. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. During her working years she was a ward secretary at White River Health Care in Calico Rock. She retired after 23 years of employment. Helen was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Flat Rock Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law -- Kathleen and Norman Montgomery of Viola; five sons and four daughters-in-law, James and Carolyn McCurley of Oxford, Jerald and Myrna McCurley of Wideman, Kenneth McCurley of Wideman, Keith and Pat McCurley of Widemanm and Teddy and Phyllis McCurley of Oxford; one half-brother, Joe Evans of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, James McCurley; two infant sons; one sister, Christie Fowler; one brother, Harvey Evans; two grandchildren, Michael Montgomery and Kelli Franks.

Graveside funeral services were June 30 at Flat Rock Cemetery with Bobby Coleman officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Calico Rock.

Pallbearers were Scott McCurley, Brent McCurley, Doug McCurley, Monty McCurley, Toby McCurley and Emery Weems.
