Hazel Mae Bowers Laman, 81, died Oct. 24, 2003, at her home in Parkway Village.
Born May 6, 1922, in Calamine, Ark., she was the daughter of Oscar and Mary Jane Bowers. She was a graduate of nearby Cave City High School. It was there that she met her loving husband of 59 years, the late J.T. Laman.
She was a longtime member of Markham Street Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and active member of the Women's Missionary Union. She and her husband were also founding members of Freeman Heights Baptist Church in Berryville, Ark., where they lived for eight years.
While her work in the church and elsewhere brought her a sense of purpose and accomplishment, it was her family of J.T. and four children who were her greatest source of pride and deepest joy.
Survivor include four children and their spouses -- Lynda Laman Colvert and her husband, Lundy; Kathy Laman Besancon and her husband, Hal; Judy Laman Fuller and her husband, Dale; and John Thomas Laman II and his wife, Virginia; seven grandchildren -- Robert Lane Blaylock, Jennifer Lynn Wilson and her husband, David, Elizabeth Ann Paul and her husband, Gunnar, Jon David Fuller and his wife, Kristi, Bryan Dale Fuller and his wife, Heather, Robert Laman Fuller and his wife, Heather, and John Thomas Laman III; eight great-grandchildren -- Amber and Stone Paul, Tanner and Hunter Wilson, Jon David II, Ellie and Sadie Fuller and Molly-Kate Fuller; her brother, Glen Bowers; and her sister, Marie Hubbard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T.; two brothers -- Estel Bowers and Gordon Bowers; and two sisters -- Caruth Hutsell and Myrtle Asbury.
The funeral service was Oct. 26 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
