Horace O. Watson, 95, of Viola died Jan. 2, 2003 at his home.
Born Oct. 6, 1907, in Viola, he was the son of H.E. and Cora Gilstrap Watson. He married Kowanda Carroll Oct. 7, 1934. He attended high school and college in southwestern Oklahoma. He lived an active life. He was a member of Viola United Methodist Church for many years. He served on the church board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He served on the Fulton County Hospital Board, the Fulton County Democratic Committee, the Salem Senior Citizens Board, the Viola School Board and the Viola City Council. He retired from the Arkansas Welfare System.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Charles Hill of Cherokee Village; his granddaughter, Dee Ann McCoy and her husband, Clint of Benton; a sister-in-law, Mildred Watson of Dumas; a brother-in-law, Erby Carroll and his wife, Ella Maye, of West Plains; a niece; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters; a brother; his parents; and devoted step-mother, Clessie Watson.
The funeral was Jan. 5 at Viola United Methodist Church with Doug Criss officiating. Burial was in Viola Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
