Hugh Otis Wells, 81, of Princeton, Ind., died Oct. 8, 2005.
He was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Frank and Pearl Pouppirt Wells. He spent his boyhood years in Kansas before his family moved to Ash Flat. There he graduated from high school and married his "sweetheart," Maymie Gibbins, in 1943.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. Later he earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He moved to the Princeton area in 1955, where he worked at Potter and Brumfield until he retired in 1991.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Donna Blake and Bruce Eckstein of Oakton, Va., Karen and Scott Smith of Princeton, Ind., Gail and Randy Abler of Savannah, Ga., Tina Wells of Cotopaxi, Colo., and Julie and Paul McMahon of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jackie Semple of Fresno, Calif.
Local surviving relatives include his sister-in-law and her husband, Faye (Gibbons) and James Shelly of Ash Flat; and nieces, Kathy Carter of Cherokee Village and Kay Carter of Ash Flat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and Verle Wells; and an infant daughter, Celena Wells.
Graveside memorial services were held Nov. 12 at the Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat with arrangements under the direction of Colvin Funeral Home.
