Irene Marie Powell, 81, of Hot Springs, formerly of Salem, died Jan. 30, 2004, in Hot Springs at National Park Hospital.
Born Oct. 20, 1922, in Sharp County, she was the daughter of Arthur and Nora Baldridge. She was married to Herman W. Powell. She was a retired dress designer and seamstress.
She worked for many years for R&R Kauffmann Dress Company in Chicago. She was a member of Airport Road Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters -- Mae and her husband, Ray Solsfisburg, and Sharon, and husband, Carl Johnson; a son, John N., and wife, Sharon Powell; also nine grandchildren -- Timothy Griffin, Victoria Compton, Carson Hicks, Jonny Powell, Stephanie Larner, Chris Hicks, Candice Solfisburg, Keith Powell and Carl Powell; and nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers -- Carson Baldridge, and wife, Bulah, of Ravenden, and Roland Baldridge of Ozark Acres; and three sisters -- Ruth Lawrence of Greensburg, Ind., Lue Ann Baldridge Waymond of Hardy, and Ruby Baldridge of Paragould.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Powell; a daughter, Verba Hicks; five brothers -- Clarence Baldridge, Ora Baldridge, Laton Baldridge, Doil Baldridge and Darrell Baldridge; and three sisters -- Donna Mansfield, Era Purcell and Anna Knox.
The funeral was Feb. 2 at Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Hardy. Burial was in the Baker Cemetery in Ozark Acres with Jack Smith of Hot Springs officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Hardy.
