Joshua C. Swallow
Joshua C. Swallow of Cherokee Village died Aug. 19, 2006, at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
Services were held at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Chapel in Urbandale, Iowa. His ashes are intombed at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Cherokee Village.
He was born in LaGrange, Wisc., June 28, 1924, to Joshua Phillip and Susan Mae (Donelly) Swallow. He graduated from Whitewater College High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He graduated from George Williams College of Chicago and married Louise Curtis on June 17, 1951, at Chariton, Iowa.
He worked for the state of Iowa Job Service for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Shrine, American Legion, Order of St. Luke and Balloon Federation of America. He and his wife were proud to be founding members of All Saints Episcopal Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. He and his wife moved to Arkansas in 1986.
Survivors include his son, Joshua Charles II; his wife, Lelah of Des Moines, Iowa; his sister, Susan Mepham (James) of Palatine, Ill.; and several other extended family members in Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, on June 3, 2006; and by his parents.
The family requests memorials be made in his memory to the Grand Lodge of Iowa Scholarship Program or the Shriners' Crippled Children's Hospital.
