John Franklin Cushman, 82, of Evening Shade died Feb. 15, 2004, at Sharp Nursing Home in Sidney.
Born Nov. 26, 1921, at Woodstock, Ohio, he was the son of Arthur Garfield and Mary Ellen Blake Cushman. Before moving to Arkansas in 1962, he served in the Ohio State Patrol and in the United States Marine Corps from Dec. 9, 1941, to January 1946. After moving to Arkansas he farmed until 1999, and was a member of Piney Fork Church of Christ in Evening Shade.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Wagner Cushman of the home; a son, Mike Cushman of Evening Shade; two daughters -- Linda Hinson of Mobile, Ala., and Kathy Nix of Evening Shade; a brother, Arthur Cushman of Evening Shade; four sisters -- Bertha Karrer of Dublin, Ohio, Verna Bergan-dine of Sunbury, Ohio, Julia Orahood of Marysville, Ohio, and Josephine Claar of New Lisbon, Ind.; seven grandchildren -- Michelle Huff and Karen Smith, both of Evening Shade, Laura Hinson of Atlanta, Ga., Jeffrey Hinson of Mobile, Ala., Melinda Langston of Mammoth Spring, Melanie Billingsley of Cave City, and Mary Ellen Nix of Evening Shade; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Feb. 18 at Piney Fork Church of Christ in Evening Shade with Jack Richardson officiating. Burial followed in Evening Shade (Sharp) Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Hinson, Richard Huff, Lance Smith, Randal Langston, Billy Bob Billingsley, Dowl Thomas, Scott Cushman and Craig Shirley.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Qualls, M.A. Graddy, Ronnie Qualls, Jerry Gilbert George Cushman, Jim Claar, Bill Claar, Tony Wagner, Tim Wagner and Tracy Wagner.
