Joan Essenpreis, 85, of Cherokee Village, died April 25, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem,. She was born on Jan. 26, 1922, in Kankakee, Ill., the daughter of Earle Walters and Martha (Hillier) Walters.
She moved to Cherokee Village 24 years ago from Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of the Eastern Ozarks Hospital Auxiliary for many years and was active in other organizations. While living in Cherokee Village she enjoyed golfing, needlepoint and reading. She is survived by: one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Heglund of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, E. James Walters of Champaign, Ill.; one sister, Mary Idleman of Cherokee Village; and three grandchildren, Todd Heglund, Molly Heglund and Maya Moseley. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James Essenpreis; and one brother, Robert W. Walters. Private memorial services will be held by the family at a later date in Ohio.Arrangements are under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland.
