Joann "Joni" Frances Ryan, 65, of Cherokee Village died Dec. 15, 2005, at her residence. She was born June 18, 1940, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Leo J. Ryan and Frances Virden Ryan.
She was educated in the Hammond, Ind., area. Her education culminated in her earning a PhD in mathematics from Purdue University in the mid 1960s. Joni was briefly engaged in environmental research after which she devoted her life to caring for her widowed mother and her beloved aunt.
Her interests included nature, birds and flowers, local art and activities, and sports, especially Chicago Cubs. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood and a Prebyterian.
Survivors include a cousin, Cecilia May Christian Siemens of Fairfax, Va.; two second cousins, Clifton Siemens of Fairfax, Va., and George Callaghan of Sante Fe, N.M.; and two third cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunts, May Virden, Leola Virden Christian and Edith Virden Pritchett.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
