James "Jim" Edward Harris Jr., 87, of Cherokee Village died July 12, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Born Sept. 10, 1915, in Winona, Minn., he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Harris Sr.

He served in the United States Navy as an aviation structural mechanic and worked 39 years as a production supervisor for the United States Navy in Alameda, Calif., before moving to Cherokee Village in 1976. He was honored in Alameda for serving as a Mason for 50 years. He was an EMT coordinator and driver for Cherokee Village Ambulance. He also served as a Cherokee Village Security lake patrolman and volunteer fireman. He was a member of Spring River Shrine Club and Spring River Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and financial secretary.

Survivors include three sons and their wives -- Michael and Vicki Harris of San Ramon, Calif., Patrick and Mary Anne Harris of San Loreno, Calif., and David and Lisa Harris of Conway; a sister, Mary Ellen Peterson of Orlando, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Peggy Harris.

A memorial service was held July 16 at Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy with the Rev. Stanley Jagow officiating. Burial was in Spring River Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spring River Shrine Club or to Spring River Presbyterian Church.
