James W. Mattox Sr., 87, of Ash Flat died Oct. 15, 2006, in Ash Flat.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1919, in Hoxie, Ark., the son of W.T. and Lessie L. Mattox. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He worked as a farmer for most of his life before retiring. He was a Christian.
Survivors include two sons, Homer Mattox and James Mattox, both of Ash Flat; one stepson, Carl Fuller of Ash Flat; two daughters, Shirley Massey of Ash Flat and Linda Ellis of Walnut Ridge; six grandsons, Matthew Mattox, Kenneth Massey, Kevin Massey, Kristopher Massey, Jason Fuller and Jared Fuller; two granddaughters, Felissa Craig and Stacy Ludwig; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Mattox; three sons, Jimmy, Johnny and Virgil Mattox; one brother, Thomas J. Mattox; and four sisters, Fannie Ellis, Willie Ann, Marie and Nellie Jane Mattox.
The funeral services were held on Oct. 18 at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland, with burial following in the Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
