Jimmy Ray Getson, 70, of Paragould died Dec. 18, 2006, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was born Sept. 22, 1936, in O'Kean, Ark., the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Opal Gray Getson.
He was employed by Delta Asphalt Company as a trucker, was self employed, and was a former employee of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. He was of the Baptist belief. Getson was a 15-year U.S. Air Force veteran, serving his country during the Vietnam era and also served in Japan and Korea.
He is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Patricia June Getson of the home; a daughter, Terrie Morton of Paragould; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Debbie Getson of Ozark Acres and Keith and Renae Getson of Paragould; eight grandchildren, Wendy Coleman, Penny Deatherage, Misty Curtis, Dallas Getson, Brandi Getson, Matthew Getson, Mallory Getson and Kyle Morton; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Griffin of Oak Grove Heights, Doris Biggs of Petaluma, Calif., and Shirley Crabtreee of Jonesboro; brothers, Tommy Getson of Pocahontas, and Henry Lee Gates of Shafter, Calif.
Services were held at Heath Colonial Chapel Dec. 22 with Rev. Ron Berry and L.R. Smith officiating. Interment was at Greene County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Randy Getson, Charles Alwell, David Williams, Doyle Jackson, Patrick Bain and Wymon Atwood.
Honorary pallbearers are Larry Smith, Leonard Nelson, Jerry Clifford, Vernon Midgett, Frankie Swindle and Bobby Gray.
