Marine Corp. Jason Scot Clairday, 21, of Salem was killed in action Dec. 12, 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq.
Born May 23, 1983, in Garden Grove, Calif., he was the son of Virgil Logan Clairday Jr. and Nancy J. Spinelli Clairday McWilliams.
He was a 2001 graduate of Salem High School where he excelled in sports. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Salem First Baptist Church where he sang in the youth choir. He married Sarah McCullough July 31, 2004, in Salem.
He entered the Marine Corps after graduation and was serving in Fallujah, Iraq.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Clairday of Salem; his biological parents, Virgil Clairday Jr. and Nancy McWilliams, both of Delta, Colo.; his "mom and dad" -- Brenda Sutherland of Salem, and Rodney Sutherland of Camp; three brothers -- Bryan Logan Clairday of Palisade, Calif., Gary Jay Clairday of Delta, and Chris Youngblood of Camp; and a grandmother, Mary Clairday of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Tom and Fern Spinelli; and his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Dorothy Clairday.
A military funeral was held Dec. 18 at Salem First Baptist Church with burial in the Camp Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
