John F. Simmons, 77, of Thayer, Mo., died May 5, 2003, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.
He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in McAlester, Okla.
Survivors include his wife, Neveska Jean Comb-Simmons of the home; eight children -- Junior Simmons and his wife, Linda, Martha Hollis, Holly Crass and her husband, Glen, all of Thayer, Diane Roberson of Mammoth Spring, Tom Simmons and his wife, Connie, of Norman, Okla., Kim Spencer and her husband, John, of Thayer, David Simmons and his wife, Sheri, of Cherokee Village, and Kamala Crone of Thayer; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee Simmons and his wife, Jan, of Covert, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Norman Nitz of Watervliet, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Patsy Griffith of Thayer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-mother who raised him, as well as two brothers; two sisters; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral was May 7 at Clary Chapel with C.A. Starnes officiating. Interment was in Thayer Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Mammoth Spring.
Pallbearers were Chris, B.J. and Hunter Simmons, Chad Hollis, Beau Roberson and Casey Crone.
