June Shaver Koorstad, 94, of Hardy was born in Nelsonville (Sharp County) on May 2, 1911, the daughter of Ed and Hassie Shaver, and died Nov. 30, 2005. She was a Christian and long-time member of the Hardy Church of Christ. She worked as a librarian and an Avon representative. She was a member of Timely Club of Hardy and the Sharp County Historical Society where she contributed to books about the history of Hardy and one-room schools in Sharp County.
Survivors include her son, Bob, and his wife, Mary Koorstad, of Jacksonville; her sister-in-law, Mary Shaver of Hardy; her nieces, Joy Shaver Sanford of Jonesboro and Jill White Roberts of Corona Del Mar, Calif.; her nephew, David Shaver of Hardy; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and angel friends Rita Davis and Johnny Carter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill Shaver; and her sister, Maude White.
Funeral services were held Dec. 3 in Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland with Johnny Carter officiating. Burial was in Baker Cemetery near Ozark Acres, with arrangements under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Hardy.
Pallbearers were Roger Stark Paul Garner, Harlan Davis, Raymond Hicks, Eddie Wiles and Bruce Dietsche.
Honorary pallbearers were Rita, Cannon and Whitney Davis, Timely Club of Hardy, Highland Lady Rebels basketball teams, Mae Richeson, Emily Jackson, Mae and Gilbert Wolverton, Remus Watts, Jim Parks, Ellis Hill, Jack Richardson, Bob Vance, Carson Goings, Bartus Allen and Frank Arnold.
Memorials may be made to the Sharp County Library, St. Jude Research Hospital and Arkansas Children's Hospital or the charity of choice.
